The Kensington Dental Spa has today announced its brand new professional Facebook page. Quintessa Media has been working closely with the Kensington Dental Spa on their SMO targeting the growing interaction of users with Social media such as Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn and the likes.

Always changing with the times and make their highly recommended working philosophy even better, the Kensington Dental Spa are proud to launch their presence in social media with a brand new Facebook page.

Ever since Google’s Penguin updates were announced, all those who focused on producing quality content rejoiced.

This was encouraging, and they put in more effort in order to follow what Google recommended. However, these website owners found that websites sticking to SEO tricks that are not popular still rank high.

Expressing their concerns, Google’s Matt Cutts was asked why many websites rank well for various keywords when their “…backlink profiles are pretty low quality.” Answering why Google has not penalized these sites, in his Help Video, Cutts reveals Penguin’s loopholes. His words have confirmed what some website owners have suspected for some time now; while many thought that Penguin updates would put a complete stranglehold on SEO tricks, others believed that there were weaknesses in the algorithm.

Cutts clarifies that Google’s algorithm does not have complete control over certain areas, and “Penguin is geared for certain types of spam, but it’s not geared for every type of spam.” While Penguin covers many areas, it does not have updates for newer SEO deceptions. Penguin doesn’t arrest such moves, but “There are other algorithms that try to tackle that.” To put it simply, “… the algorithms haven’t gotten good enough yet.”

Cutts makes things pretty clear when he says: “… no algorithm is perfect, and Google tweaks them all the time.” He further says: “We need to make sure that things get better.” In order to do so, it’s important to receive spam reports for existing issues, and Google is “…happy to hear feedback….”

I for one, would love to hear about a case where Google took on board a reported site and penalized it, do you know of any such case?

Search Engine Optimization is a field that is as old as the concept of the Internet.

The idea was born with the need to rank pages higher on search engines so that users would be able to view them. With this, there were many underhanded and non-beneficial strategies implemented. Many of these techniques resulted in users landing on pages that had no valuable content. Users became increasing frustrated, and Google wasn’t generating as much revenue per their potential. This is why Google began to revamp its criteria for search page ranking, which is why users now have Penguin and Panda Updates.

Has Google Panda and Penguin Changed SEO Significantly?

Over time, Google began working towards improving the quality of search results by penalizing websites that used what they termed Black Hat SEO. The last couple of years have seen Google revamp its search algorithm almost completely. Panda and Penguin introductions surprised everyone, but the question to ask is: have they really changed SEO as comprehensively as they claimed to?

After Google launched new versions of its search engine algorithm, search engine optimizers wondered how they could tackle these changes. While they still work their tricks, they have been compelled to modify their strategies. Some argue that they have been compelled to think of innovative ways to work around Google’s updates, while others claim not much has actually changed other than SEO turning out to be more specialized. They claim that their SEO techniques essentially remain the same.

Expert Views about What Google Accepts

Ken O’Donnell, a veteran web developer, of KO Websites, was qouted on Forbs.com saying, “We don’t use old-style linking strategy anymore.” However, many SEO geeks are still using modified versions of old tricks; they may not be using them as prolifically as they did in the past, but they are still using them.

O’Donnell further asserts what Google recommends when he says: “We use social websites, blog post and press releases and attempt to write compelling content that brings visitors back to our client’s website.” However, SEO experts believe that along with Google’s recommended legitimate practices, they can still using things like keyword articles for article submission sites and directories. The level and quality of the content that goes into these articles is, however, questionable, and it is suspected that Google might be overlooking this.

It could be argued that SEO article writers are now more aware of the need for quality. They avoid indulging in inferior article content stuffed with keywords. Yet, some SEO experts believe that keyword stuffing is still defeating what Google recommends.

Are SEO Teams Still Gaming the System?

While one might argue that there is a huge change in the way SEO experts worked before, some things are the same for the time being at least. Some experts on Google believed that Penguin and Panda updates would render every other effort futile, apart from what Ken O’Donnell mentions: social websites, blog post, press releases and compelling content. While O’Donnell’s words are valid, currently there are other efforts going hand-in-hand. SEO experts stand testimony to this, as they continue to operate unrestricted. It’s not clear how long they may be able to operate this way; at one time or another, Google algorithm is bound to catch and penalize the websites they have been working on.

When Penguin and Panda were introduced, experts on Google’s side argued that SEO as we know it would demise, and that all efforts aside from the few mentioned above would no longer exist. While some have begun to doubt Google’s recommendations, lately some sites have been being penalized. Slowly and steadily it appears that Google’s algorithm is running a check on all sites. It would, therefore, be wise for website owners to exercise caution and not use methods that are not recommended by Google. Instead, it’s highly advisable to adhere to producing valuable content that would genuinely benefit your viewers.

April 1st 2013… as in any day i started my day by taking a quick look at my Google Analytics for the WP-OBS website.

I clicked on my “Real Time” tab to see if there is someone right now on the site, I was pretty shocked when i saw that i have 41 active visitors all coming from the “International Space Station – Control Room“. When you digg in to try and find out what are they looking at on the site i saw that the page is no other than “April Fool’s” – needless to say that i do not have any such page on my site.

From a quick check on Google search i could see that im absolutely not alone here and that many other users have been hit by the same prank. From what i could see although it appears in the live real time view those fake visitors from the International Space Station – Control Room are not actually being counted as actual visitors, which means that it shouldn’t skew my daily visitors. That said, i will check later to day to confirm./ It will be interesting to see what will be Google’s official response, i will update of course once i find out.

Quintessa Media was delighted to take an active part in the development of the WP-OBS. The development of this plugin was (and still is) a complex undertaking that is challenging as well as exciting. Quintessa Media look forward to continue the innovative development as more and more features are being released.

The WP-OBS (WordPress Online Booking System) is an Online Appointments Booking System Plugin suitable for WordPress running Sites that will enable business owners and customers alike to manage or make bookings/appointments directly from the business Website. A time saving feature which many customers may appreciate is that customers do not need to set up an account in order to proceed to make a booking. The WP-OBS will allow business owners to add/customise services they provide, add/remove employees who provide them together with relative prices and the services duration.

Customers are able to book appointments online directly from the Business website or from a Facebook page [this feature requires the Pro version] and all functionalities are simple and user friendly. This plugin is extremely flexible: it allows business owners to Approve/Decline appointments on the go by following a simple confirm/decline link which is sent to the Admin email address (set up by the user). The booking form is also very flexible, it allows for a full translation which means that the WP-OBS can be used in almost any language other than English (currently it supports all Latin characters, but we will strive to expand this to include other languages in future).

To see the full functionalities of the WP-OBS you can follow click here.

QR Code is here!

Although we are all using Blackberry here at Quintessa Media, the QR Code has captured our eyes. The fact is that you can still use it with your Blackberry but it is just a bit more challenging to do so as you need to go through the Blackberry messenger to scan the code.

What is QR?

A QR Code (stands for “Quick Response”) is a mobile phone readable barcode that’s been big in Japan forever, broke into Europe a while back, and is now getting traction in USA and Australia.

Just search for “QR scanner” in the iTunes or Droid app store. Depending on your QR code reader, once scanned you’ll be redirected to a web page, call a phone number, see a message, or other action. (I can only imagine the merry prankster who will love this “what’s behind door number one” app.) The standard key elements will be tap to call, Google map with directions, contact form and then we will add any key elements from your current website.

And so, we decided that at Quintessa we should allow anyone who wishes to use the QR function to be able to do it freely from our website. Anything that you want, just name it, with our QR Generator you can Generate 10+ possible types (email, phone, vCard, location and much more.)

So what are you waiting for? Go on, scroll down and generate your own QR, it’s absolutely free!

If you are not interlinking your posts or web page content, then you are missing a lot of useful link juice. Linking within an article to other articles is a great way to build Page Rank throughout your site and it’s a great way to get readers to find your other articles on similar subjects. This plugin will interlink keywords to your other articles for you. It provides automatic linking, both internal and external, for a chosen word or phrase. You can also set anchor text, choose if it should be “nofollow” or not, and more. One of the best features of this plugin is that it will only do this for the first occurrence of a word in a post so you don’t have to worry about spamming your post with numerous links to the same thing.

[3] SEO Friendly Images:

Images also play a vital role in your SEO strategy. So it’s important that you tag them correctly. SEO Friendly images allows you to do this, and saves you hours and hours of work.

[4] SEO Slugs:

Stop words are ignored by search engines. Most of your post titles have them in, but they are meaningless to search engines. So when you have a post title like this: “What You Can Do Immediately For Higher Rankings” you have a permalink like this: ‘/what-you-can-do-immediately-for-higher-rankings’ but what you really want is for your permalink to look like this: /immediately-higher-rankings.

[5] Google Positioner:

It’s important to know your keywords, and to know for which keywords you are getting searches for. And this plugin does just the same. It’s pointless selecting a few keywords, then writing some content for those keywords and hoping that the rest goes well. SEO is about being proactive and tracing what works and what doesn’t.

The importance of semantic content has never been greater in the short life span of internet and this continues to grow – This makes every unique and fresh content worth its weight in gold. Every website is populated with content that is intended for both the human visitor as well as the search engines. But, are these content in the right spot? Are they able to grab the attention of the visitors in the shortest span of time – while also providing the search engines with enough input to rank them high on the SERP (Search Engine Result Pages).

This where Information Architecture become vital – and this refers to the content wireframe or skeleton of the website. Information architecture has to be envisaged from both the angles of human as well as machine readability. A good information architecture is able to strike a good balance between the man and the machine.

It enables the website to interact intelligently with its prospective audience while also making it rank higher in the search engine results. The goal of an information architecture project is to provide a solid foundation for organization of site content, navigation naming in your users’ vocabulary and an intuitive navigation model.

An information architecture that is built on the principles of usability always meets the needs of those who visit and use the site as well as meeting the vision and business objectives of site stakeholders. Thus, it makes business sense to engage a usability expert as early as possible in the website design or re-design process—before design concept and before any code is written. Once the right framework for content and other website elements are created, it eliminates any margin of marketing error in the future.

Maximizing the engagement of Social Media channels in driving the traffic towards your website or blog is referred to as the Social Media Marketing. The umbrella of social media refers to a wide variety of actions related to the interactions on the social web – From a savvy utilization of the micro-blogging platform of Twitter to utilizing the fan base of Facebook where you can share updates, photos, joining events and a variety of other activities.

As the different parameters of SEO are getting overly used and abused by the marketers, the value of social interaction threads have increased and now any twitter feed or Facebook profile page gets a huge importance from the search engine algorithms. On the other hand, Social media interactions can also help build links that in turn support into SEO efforts. A large volume of searches are also performed at the various social media sites where the members have spent a lot of intelligent effort to store quality links.

Marketing = Networking

Like in the physical world, the greater the volume of meaningful networking, the higher the probability of success in the social web. Meaningful contribution plays a very important role in shaping the reputation of a brand or individual on the web – and with sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and FourSquare, there is ample opportunity to add value to your virtual community of friends and collaborators. Digital marketers understand the value of these impressive network of educated consumers and are actively involved in creating a space for their brands within these communities – through health exchange of ideas and intelligent feedbacks – This is in essence the crux of Social media marketing – utilizing the collective voice and intelligence of consumers to improve a brand.

“A social media marketing strategy can be as simple as having a company blog, a Twitter account, or attaching “Digg This” and “Tweet This” tags to the end of articles. It can also be as complicated as having a full campaign that encompasses blogs, Twitter, social networking and viral videos through YouTube.”

Every business should understand its niche and specific audience and should focus their resource and energy in these pockets of influence – a musician might set up a profile on Last.FM while a movie marketer might use the Flixster platform in conjunction with Facebook.
